The year 2022 marks the debut of the first V-series Escalade. The high-performance Escalade V is expected to feature a 682 horsepower version of the supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine taken from the 10Best award-winning CT5-V Blackwing sedan. It will also have a striking, blacked-out exterior design.
The V model comes equipped with all-wheel drive and includes six-piston Brembo performance brakes with red-painted calipers as standard. The air suspension of the Escalade has been retuned for improved handling in the V model. The Escalade V will be available for purchase in the summer of 2022 and will be positioned at the top of the Cadillac lineup with a starting price of $149,990.
The Cadillac Escalade, the brand’s largest SUV, is available with two engine options. The standard engine is a 6.2-liter V-8 that produces 420 horsepower and has the capability to deactivate half of its cylinders while cruising to conserve fuel. An alternative option is a 3.0-liter diesel inline-six engine.
Both engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and buyers can choose between rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. The Escalade, like its siblings the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, and GMC Yukon, is built on an independent rear suspension, which offers extra legroom in the third row compared to the previous solid rear-axle model.
Higher trim levels also feature an air suspension with adaptive dampers. During performance testing, the long-wheelbase Escalade ESV with the V-8 engine reached 60 mph in just 5.9 seconds. The diesel engine, with 277 horsepower, does not offer the same straight-line performance as the V-8, but it does provide improved fuel economy and 460 lb-ft of low-end torque.
For those looking for even more power, the Escalade V is equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 that produces 682 horsepower, allowing it to reach 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. While the V-8’s power is impressive, the Escalade’s handling is not as agile as its competitors, such as the Mercedes-AMG GLS63 or the BMW Alpina XB7.
